2007Supporting Youth Activity Centres in Gaza and the West Bank
HOPING continues to support the Youth Activity Centres (YACs) throughout the occupied West Bank & Gaza. In coordination with the Union of Youth Activity Centres (UYAC), we have supported a range of activities and projects. Support went towards art and music workshops, skills training, as well as building up the infrastructure of the centres themselves. The work HOPING has supported in 2007 includes:
Gaza Strip:
Khan Younis Camp Youth Activity Centre
- Setting up a centre for women and children, providing basic equipment, computers, a camera, tables, and a television.
Jabalia Camp Youth Activity Centre
- Sponsoring various sports events throughout the year for children between 10 and 15 years old, as well as the purchase of balls and a table tennis set.
Shati Camp Youth Activity Centre
- Holding youth workshops on tolerance, democracy and the rule of law.
Jabalia Camp Women's Activities Centre
- Equipment and supplies for a theatre workshop, costumes and stage supplies for a new Dabka troupe, and handicraft workshops for youth aged 15-25.
Maghazi Camp Youth Cultural Centre
- Equipment for arts and social activities for children from 6 to 18 years old. This included tables and chairs, art paper, paints, a computer and camera, and educational toys.
West Bank
Nur Sham refugee camp Youth Activity Centre
- Re-building the interior of the Centre by tiling the floor, caulking walls, and setting up a sports room
Qalandia refugee camp Youth Activity Centre
- HOPING provided a grant to put up windows in the main activities hall.
Aida refugee camp Youth Activity Centre
- Uniforms, equipment and supplies for a scouting group for 10-16 year olds.
Jalazone refugee camp Youth Activity Centre
- Establishing a scouting group for boys and girls, providing them with uniforms and equipment.
Yafa Cultural Centre, Balata Camp
- Preparing costumes and props for 30 children, providing a dance trainer, and purchasing musical equipment.
Old Askar Camp
- Setting up a folklore dance, crafts and music group for 7-18 year olds, as well as drawing, calligraphy and skills training workshops.
Deir Ammar Camp Youth Activity Centre
- Summer camp for 150 children aged 10-13 years old held over two weeks, with sports activities and group art sessions and competitions.
