Media training programme

HOPING is sponsoring a media training programme for ten young girls and boys in the occupied West Bank. Over the course of a year, the young refugees will take part in weekly classes to learn how to use a camera, write a script, conduct interviews, edit videos and add subtitles.

60% of refugees in Balata are under the age of 25, and there is a high rate of unemployment in the camp. The training gives young Palestinians key skills to pursue a career in media, photography and journalism.

After some initial training in the classroom, their first task was to familiarise themselves with the equipment by walking around Balata and documenting scenes they have grown up with. They then went on a field trip to villages in the Jenin district where they filmed and interviewed the local community about their lives and struggles.
